I remember from psychology class in college that most folks go through at least two depressions in their life times.
We naturally face hard times when we lose someone we love, experience a divorce or job loss, become seriously ill, or in general feel lifeless and without purpose. Processing grief and sorrow is unique to each one of us. But how do we muster the courage to take heart and look for that ray of hope? Psalm 32 is one that calls a man BLESSED to be forgiven.
Sin has always been a stumbling block between God and man. It has deprived us of all the goodness and divine inheritance we have through Jesus's great sacrifice, death, and resurrection. Sin separates us from God--making us feel unqualified to enter into His presence. Yet the "remedy" is clear. You can take these 2 immediate steps as your heart longs to draw near to God seeking His forgiveness: Have you ever wondered what JOY does to your brain?
Joy packs a pretty good dopamine and serotonin punch in our noggin that make us want to connect with others. In other words, relationships and other people are central to feelings of joy and happiness. Joy builds resilience and godly character. Joy is a fruit of the spirit within us. After recognizing that God places joy in our hearts, what can we do to foster a sense of joy? |
