Wait! Is it 6,000 or 60,000 Daily Thoughts?
A new study out of Queen's University in Canada suggests that we have about 6K individual thoughts daily (instead of the formerly postulated and generally accepted 60K thoughts). This particular study focused on WHEN people think about a single idea or "thought worm" by analyzing observable transitions (marking of a new thought) via brain imaging while its 184 participants watched movies. You can read the complete, more technical study here.
And for us Brain Changers? Well, even 6K thoughts is quite the lot to take captive!
But let's remember. We don't go it alone! We have the Holy Spirit to guide us AND we've been given weapons of warfare so divinely powerful that fortresses are destroyed (. Cor. 10:3-5)!
If the battlefield is in the mind, how do we wage war?
Those fortresses, speculations, and lofty things are probably comprised of hundreds of thoughts and thought clusters in and of themselves. And by God's good grace, He has given us the ability to wage war spiritually against the formidable foe who ultimately has been utterly and completely defeated through Christ.
And God--in His great plan for His cherished children placed on this earth--has fully equipped faith-filled believers with armor (Eph. 6) and the renewed mind of Christ (1 Cor. 2:16). He charges us to "rejoice always, pray without ceasing, and give thanks in everything..." (1 Thes. 6:16-18).
But what does all this mean?
Well, if you struggle a bit to "run against a troop" or "scale a wall" (Psalm 18) that you see in front of you as you wrangle in those toxic thoughts and lies in order to destroy them, please take heart. Tiny changes in your thought life can reap huge rewards. You don't have to tackle all those thoughts at once.
Ask the LORD to reveal to you specific thoughts and spiritual roots that are not in line with His Truth. Then start with just that one thought or root. He will lead you in the "battle." There is victory and emotional/mental freedom in store for you!
