This is a question I ask myself OFTEN about my thought life (it's like a mental sieve): Do my thoughts partner me with God OR put me in some kind of twisted agreement with the enemy of my soul? If I discover a particular thought is not something God would "say" to me, I practice the art of delete/paste. I delete, cancel, stop that thought dead in its tracks and replace it with God’s Truth. In doing so I find peace (and relief!) and MY EMOTIONS follow suit! But what if the thought PERSISTS? By far the majority of our thoughts are repetitive and negative in nature. If we isolate that persistent, ungodly thought, "delete" it, and replace it with God's Truth, but it still keeps creeping up in our minds, we may have to tackle this one with prayer, confession, and an accountability partner. There may be some hidden fear in our hearts that is actually "growing" and "fostering" that thought. You've heard the saying: "Good fruit, good root." Same with our thoughts. So grab your journal. Write down the toxic thought and try to keep asking yourself WHY? you are believing the toxic thought or what makes you draw that conclusion. In general analyzing and picking apart the thought will help you drill down to the root. Be honest with yourself as you answer. And be on the look out for absolutes like "always" and "never." Those are huge red flags in and of themselves and are almost always (haha) false. There's no need to fear the process. God is always with you, and He will lead you especially if you desire Truth in your innermost being! Remember: Change happens one thought at a time! You and I both actually have a great deal of "power" in the process. We get to choose our thoughts, emotions, and actions while relying fully on God and trusting Him for the outcomes.
