The Hero I Have Known by Grace Julius Ssembatya Dear Grandmother, To the world you are one person, but to me you are the world. You don’t have much, but we have always and still feel like we have everything. You don’t have millions in your bank account, but you have created a legacy worth much more. You taught me love, patience and endurance. You taught me how to pray and led by example. You praised me whenever I did well and pointed out my mistakes with that gentle voice. You encouraged me to work hard in school and taught me how to read and write. I still remember your voice as you tell me bedtime stories and sometimes sat around the fire at night. I still remember everything you taught me. Grandmother you are the truest, dearest, more than a grandmother to me. I call you a friend, sister, cousin and also dad when I lost Dad to the world. You stood alone for 20 years after he neglected .... .... my mother and me, and only God knows the inner strength you have to come through with my siblings and me. And still you are doing your part to see that my siblings have a better education. You are a precious gift from God, so much beauty, grace, love and patience you possess. You touch my heart in so many ways, your strength and smile even on dark days make me realize I have an angel beside me. Your selfless acts of kindness, your intuitive advice, your love for family will always be remembered and live on in our hearts. I know now I have turned into a man, the man you raised to be a God fearing person. The best gift you have ever given me was to introduce me to the Love of Jesus Christ. The love that has seen me through a lot in my life time challenges, the education, health, shelter and feeding, it has always been Jesus using you to provide and remind us that he knows our future plans, Jeramiah 29:11. I am always grateful of you grandmother. I pray that the Lord continues to protect you and strengthen you until your dream comes true. The dream of living in a better cemented house and you sitting in my own car, it has always been your prayer. Every day I pray that you live to see that happen in our family, a family that was chosen by God Himself because we are a living testimony in our community and to our relatives who neglected and hated us for choosing Jesus Christ. I love you with every single part of my being… You are and always will be, the gold standard. Yours, Grandson, Grace Julius Ssembatya Grace Julius is my guest this week on the Choose 2 Think Podcast.
