You're gonna love this full episode with Ben Virgo of Christian Heritage London as he shares fascinating stories of a few of the great heroes of the faith such as John Wesley and William Wilberforce.
Ben emphasizes how many of these men were ordinary folks with ordinary struggles just like you and I, yet they changed the world! The faith of these heroes hinged on Christ and the resounding announcement of the Gospel that it is Christ who finished the work through His resurrection. It is that victorious and eternal life that we are promised, our own grit and grind notwithstanding. If you've ever had THOUGHTS such as: Do you desire to have highly functioning and healthy friendships, marriage, and relationships with your loved ones and colleagues so that you can shine the light of Christ and be the salt to those who may not know Him?
And I know you’re saying, yeah, I do, except my mouth gets me in trouble sometimes! Well, how about if I offered you 3 tips to get you on the road to becoming an ENCOURAGER? To become that person who INSPIRES others? The one who holds her tongue in wisdom? Melanie Penn is a singer/songwriter best known for her original album, IMMANUEL, a retelling of the Christmas story. For many years she was a mainstay of the New York theater scene and played Sandy on the national tour of Grease! with Frankie Avalon. She recently released her 5th album, More Alive Vol. I and is soon to release Vol. II!
Currently Mel divides her time between New York City and Nashville. In a time when anxiety and depression are at all time highs, Melanie and I unpack her song "Don't Worry" and how Biblical truths shine the light for us during our darkest moments. Melanie candidly offers us a glimpse into what it is like to be a Creative as she walks out God's calling on her life and uses the gifts and talents He has bestowed upon her. Toward the end of our chat, we discuss negative self-talk and toxic thinking. Melanie shares a powerful tool to help you analyze your thoughts based on the grammar of each thought. So get this.
When you give thanks to God, praise and adore Him, turn your focus to Him each morning, you are literally changing the landscape of your brain! When you turn our thoughts to God, you are using your MIND. Your MIND influences your BRAIN literally! Your brain generates hundreds if not thousands of new brain cells daily. Combine this with the impact of taking thoughts captive (2 Cor. 10:5) and being transformed through the renewing of your mind (Rom. 12:2), and you have a RECIPE for JOYFUL, PEACEFUL living. So often in the Bible, God encourages you to give thanks. When you give thanks you cannot complain, worry, or fret simultaneously. Serious moments of thanksgiving and adoration of God push away darkness and anxiety, rewiring your biological brain and renewing your mind. What better time to give thanks than when you first arise each morning? |
