![]() Have you ever wondered what life is like post-menopause? Doctors say you are post-menopausal if menstruation has ceased for at least a year. For me, the transition was not terribly difficult, but I did take a nose dive or two along the way. To be sure, the process of becoming "post" can be quite the ordeal with hot flashes, night sweats, mood swings, and the hijacking of our bodies. There are a gazillion hormonal jokes, quotes, and quips that you might find entertaining, but I'd like to share my experience with you as I am now fully operating in my personal upgrade. I call menopause the divine upgrade because I want to learn to celebrate this season, take note of where I am, and trust God to lead me to new and exciting places. Some days, I feel like I am just beginning my journey and it's wildly exciting. I feel like a kid in a candy store: inquisitive, expectant, and thrilled by what I see, touch, and taste! I'm so pumped about what may happen in the next decade or so; I'm energized, with all systems go, busting at the seams, and chasing my bliss of writing and blogging and encouraging and teaching. But sometimes I feel like odd-woman-out. Society paints a really different picture of what it means to age. Geesh, when I see some of the former super models (who are now in their 50's and 60's) posing in their bikinis on the beach, well, I am, quite frankly, shocked. They must work really, really hard to look like that, I think. There is such tremendous pressure to NOT look like we are aging. Humankind continues to judge the outward appearance it seems. One would think there would be relief of those pressures at this point! How do we women resist that incessant push and pull to have perfect bodies? Let's talk about this! Let's examine our perspective about life post-menopause. Life doesn't have to wind down. Not yet. Post menopausal women have much to share--some might even call it wisdom. It's a time to serve like never before, a time to mentor and pour back to others what was poured into us. Do we need to be physically and emotionally and spiritually "fit"? Heck yeah! But we do this because we are good stewards of our bodies, minds, and spirits NOT because we feel pressure to look a certain way, perform a certain way, or pretend a certain way. We can learn to not only accept but even embrace the divine upgrade. It's a unique position. We've earned it! Over the next several posts, let's dig a bit deeper into post-menopause and what this upgrade can mean. What does the Bible have to say about menopause? Any examples there? How can we celebrate this season of our lives instead of bemoan it? Are there any positive benefits and personal applications? Is aging a mindset? So come with me and let's chat about a few glorious conditions that we can claim after menopause, such as:
Let's find beauty right where we are! “The menopause of Sarah became her menostart; this is feminine beauty! The death plot against Mordecai became his life spring; this is masculine beauty! A kind of life lived in God's word is a life of miraculous beauty!” ― Israelmore Ayivor Comments are closed.
