![]() For what do you hunger? For love? Companionship? Provisions? A sense of belonging? Recognition? Wealth? Wisdom? Things of this world? Or perhaps you are suffering with a famine-sized hunger that has spread to all areas of your soul producing an emotional and spiritual barrenness? Maybe you feel destitute like the prodigal son. The good news is that our hunger and impoverishment can be the tool that brings us to our senses and leads us to God. No matter what you may need or how pervasive your "famine," turn to God to satisfy the need. In this way, you will come to know God and discover His ways and character. You will be restored and you may discover that when your hunger is only for God, you need only to open your mouth so He can fill it (Psa. 81:10). I am not sure where I first heard or read the quote "God feeds us hunger" (in order to pay proper tribute). I found it written on a sticky note in one of my journals. Even in my Christian walk, I have experienced painful hunger for (or the temptation to find) "something more." I am encouraged that this doesn't catch God by surprise and that if I shift my focus to Him with an attitude of thankfulness, somehow the pining away diminishes. I've heard some say that absolute contentment while we walk this earth will always elude us because simply put this is not our home. Still, I don't want to miss the sweet relationship with my Heavenly Father that I can enjoy even though eternity has been set in my heart.
