Do you ever feel like anxiety is running the show in your life? Maybe it shows up as a restless mind at night, a constant undercurrent of worry, or that knot in your stomach before a tough conversation or big event. If you’ve ever wished for a practical, faith-filled way to break free from fear and find peace, you are not alone—and you’ll love my latest podcast interviews with Dr. Ronnie Kent and Dr. James Kent, authors of The Anxiety Algorithm.

These two episodes of the Choose 2 Think Inspirational Podcast dive deep into how we can transform patterns of anxiety into patterns of peace and joy, using Scripture, brain science, and practical steps you can use every day.

The authors graciously allowed me to use my anxiety
playing pickleball as a case study of sorts! You don't want to miss this breakdown of applying the algorithm to this sport!

About the Authors

Dr. Ronnie Kent, M.D. recently retired after a 41-year career as a board-certified pediatrician and behavioral health specialist in Hattiesburg, Mississippi. For over 25 years, he focused on helping children and teens with ADHD, learning disabilities, anxiety, depression, and behavioral struggles. Ronnie now leads the ministry Faith & Wellness and continues to teach Bible classes. He and his wife, Anne, have been married for 45 years and have three children and ten grandchildren.

Dr. James Kent, PsyD, is the Executive Vice President of Faith & Wellness at the Moore-West Center for Applied Theology. With over 10 years of clinical experience as a psychotherapist, James has counseled individuals, couples, and families, specializing in equipping churches and faith communities to address mental health and emotional well-being. He and his wife, Jessica, live in Hattiesburg, Mississippi, with their four children.

Together, this father-son duo combines decades of clinical expertise with a deep love for Scripture to help readers and listeners understand—and overcome—their anxiety.

About the The Anxiety Algorithm

The Anxiety Algorithm offers a step-by-step, Scripture-centered plan to help you identify anxious thoughts, shift unhealthy patterns, and build a lasting sense of peace. Drawing from brain science (like neuroplasticity and thought renewal) and Biblical truth (especially Philippians 4:8), the Kents show how anyone can:

  • Recognize anxiety triggers and patterns
  • Replace fearful, shame-based thoughts with God’s truth
  • Practice daily tools that calm the mind and body
  • Abide in Christ for lasting peace and transformation

The book is divided into four parts:
  1. Discovering a New Way to Live
  2. Applying The Anxiety Algorithm
  3. Overcoming Anxiety Through Strong Relationships
  4. The Algorithm and Long-Term Wellness

Each section blends practical exercises (like thought records and visual aids) with Biblical encouragement, making it a guide you can use for everything from daily stress to deep-rooted fears.

Episode 1: Discovering The Anxiety Algorithm

In Part 1, we explore the Kents’ journey of writing The Anxiety Algorithm and the heart behind the book. Both Ronnie and James share why anxiety is such a common struggle—and how Scripture and science together provide a path toward healing.

We discuss:
  • Why anxiety isn’t something to be ashamed of
  • How preparation and routines can prevent stress
  • Why abiding in Christ is the foundation for true peace
  • The power of simple visuals and repetition to retrain your brain

Episode 2: Applying the Algorithm for Everyday Peace

In Part 2, we get practical. The Kents share how to use the algorithm in real-life situations—like navigating tense conversations, parenting challenges, financial stress, and even competitive moments on the pickleball court.
You’ll discover:

  • Why abiding in Christ (not striving harder) leads to peace and joy
  • How to use Scripture as “ammunition” for your thoughts
  • Why contentment is learned—and how to develop it
  • How to build mental “muscle memory” for calm, Christlike responses
  • What it means to truly thrive—not just survive

Why These Episodes Matter

Anxiety, fear, and overwhelm are common struggles, especially for Christian women in midlife and beyond. But as the Kents remind us, God doesn’t just want us to manage our anxiety—He wants us to find freedom, joy, and lasting peace.

If you’ve been craving a fresh approach that blends faith, brain science, and practical tools, The Anxiety Algorithm will bless you.
